Halfway Runs Back To Back Fires

On the afternoon of May 28th, crews from Halfway responded on three working fire incidents in Washington County. The call came in for a Barn Fire on Box 12-11 in the Community Fire Company of District 12’s first due on Lappans Road. Engine 261 responded with a crew of 4 and Paramedic 268 with a crew of 2 to assist on the working structure fire. The barn was a complete loss. No injuries were reported, but the family did lose several pets.

While returning from the Lappans Road call, Halfway was dispatched with Hagerstown Engine 5 for the report of an explosion to the rear of Tractor Supply on Massey Boulevard. Engine 261 responded with their crew of four and Tower 26 marked up on the call to support the Engine returning from the previous call. Crews had a column of black smoke showing as they approached the scene. Units arrived to find a homeless camp engulfed in flames that had been set on fire. No injuries were reported during that incident. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s FM26 Ed Ernst was able to Identify the suspect and apprehend him several days later.

As crew were wrapping up hose behind Tractor Supply, another call came in for a vehicle accident with fire on Oak Ridge Drive. Engine 261 marked up on the call responding with their crew of four. During response, additional information was given updating the location to be on West Oak Ridge Drive. Engine 261 continued to the scene call as the correct assignment was dispatched. Crews arrived to find a working vehicle fire.
