Halfway Responds To Vehicle Overturned On Virginia Avenue

On the evening of April 17th, Halfway crews were alerted at 17:08 hours with Williamsport Rescue Engine Two and Community Rescue Service for a vehicle accident in the 17800 block of Virginia Avenue just south of the Hagerstown City Limits. Washington County Emergency Communications had reports of a vehicle overturned. Crews arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with one on its roof. Halfway’s Deputy Chief Drawbaugh arrived establishing Virginia Avenue Command.
Firefighters had a two-vehicle accident with one vehicle overturned and a second vehicle into a stone wall with a utility pole sheared off. The occupants of both vehicles were able to self-extricate themselves prior to Fire & EMS arrival. EMS personnel on Medic 753 evaluated both patients as Deputy Chief Drawbaugh requested a second Medic Unit dispatched to the scene to assist with transport. Both patients were categorized as Priority 2 Category C Traumas and were transported to Meritus Medical Center.
Once all patients were packaged and transported, Deputy Chief Drawbaugh released Williamsport’s Rescue Engine Two from the scene. Engine 261 remained on the scene for nearly an hour assuring all hazards were taken care of until towing agencies arrived and both vehicles were removed from the scene. Once all hazards were cleared, Deputy Chief Drawbaugh terminated command and the scene was turned over to Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 17:53 hours.
The exact cause of Saturday evenings accident has not been released and remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Both occupants involved were transported with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Halfway responded receiving assistance from Williamsport Fire & EMS, Community Rescue Service, and Washington County Fire Police.
