Halfway Responds To Dumpster Fire on Hopewell Road

On the night of march 13th, Halfway was alerted to Box 26-4 for a dumpster fire threatening a structure at 11710 Hopewell Road. Washington County Emergency Communications received the call from a security guard reporting the fire. Crews arrived to find the dumpster located on the Charlie Side of the structure. Deputy Chief Drawbaugh arrived, establishing command and confirming he had a working dumpster fire.
Firefighters off Engine 261 were able to deploy an attack-line and get a quick knock on the fire bringing it under control. Once under control, Deputy Chief Drawbaugh immediately requested a Fire marshal to the scene and scaled back on units holding Company 26 and Hagerstown City Engine 4. Upon arrival of Tower 26, firefighters utilized the waterway on the Tower to fully dowse the dumpster to ensure the fire was out. Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire keeping it from spreading to the surrounding vehicles or the building.
Emergency crews responding on the box consisted of the Volunteer Fire Company of Halfway, HFD Engine 4, Williamsport Fire & EMS, HFD Engine 1, Maugansville Goodwill Fire Company, Washington County Special Operations, HFD Battalion Chief Hopkins, Washington County Safety Officer, and Washington County Fire Police.
