Halfway Responds To Bus Fire

On the evening of March 14th, Halfway firefighters were alerted with Hagerstown Engine 5 at 8:19 pm for a reported vehicle fire in the area of 11210 Greenberry Road. Crews arrived to find an unoccupied passenger bus fully involved in flames. Deputy Chief Drawbaugh arrived and established command as firefighters pulled an attack line and began their fire attack. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack bringing the fire under control within minutes of their arrival. Deputy Chief Drawbaugh reported the fire out at 8:32 pm and requested a Fire Marshall to be started.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshals office. The bus which was damaged was a 1992 El Dorado Omni Bus owned by the Iglesia Adventista Church at 17805 Sherman Ave. Damages were estimated to be around $5,000. The fire is believed to have started in the interior passenger compartment of the bus.
