Halfway Responds For Vehicle Into The Building In Lakeside

On the evening of April 16th, Halfway crews were alerted at 22:06 hours for a vehicle accident on Pickwick Lane in the Lakeside Mobile Home Community. Washington County Emergency Communications had reports of a single vehicle into a Mobile Home with possible entrapments. Halfway responded on the call along with units from Williamsport Fire & EMS, Washington County Special Operations, and the County Safety Officer due to the severity of the call.
Crews arrived to find a single Sports Utility Vehicle that had struck the building penetrating the exterior walls crashing through the building. Halfway’s Deputy Chief Jamie Drawbaugh arrived establishing Pickwick Command and assigned Engine 261 to investigate the scene. Firefighters were faced with major structural with severe structural compromise to the home. Engine 261’s crew was able to locate the driver of the vehicle and the single occupant of the structure, both appearing to be unharmed. Firefighters were able to remove both subjects quickly and safely from the home.
Once removed, all occupants were checked out by EMS and confirmed to have no injuries. Command deemed the incident to be Property Damage Only and released Williamsport Fire &EMS units from the call. Remaining units from Halfway and Washington County Special Operations were committed till shortly after midnight assisting with the removal and mitigation of all hazards on the scene due to the severe damage to the home.
All fire department crews were clear of the call by 00:10 hours Saturday morning. It is not currently known what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle Friday night. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
