Crews Respond To I70 for Roll-Over

MAR 25, 2021

On the morning of Mach 25th, Halfway responded for a vehicle accident on the area of Exit 28 on Interstate 70. Halfway was alerted for Engine 261 and Medic 269 receiving assistance from Williamsport Rescue Engine 2 and Funkstown Engine 101. Washington County ECC had reports of a single vehicle roll-over just prior to Exit 28 for Downsville Pike.

Crews arrived to find a single passenger car on its side with one occupant trapped in the vehicle. Captain William King arrived and established command reporting they had one conscious and alert trapped in the vehicle. Firefighter Christopher Amos on Rescue Engine 2 took control of the Extrication Group to begin extrication. Crews were able to cut and flap the roof open to gain access to the patient. Once the patient was removed from the vehicle, Command reported extrication complete at 03:43 hours.

Once removed from the vehicle, the driver was checked out by EMS and refused treatment and was turned over to Maryland State Police troopers on the scene. Halfway remained on the scene with Engine 261 for a brief period awaiting the arrival of the towing agency. Once the vehicle and all hazards were removed, our crews cleared the scene and returned to service.
